ARTICLES ON GENERIC ONLINE MARKETING STUFF

Marketing Wisdom for 2007 Tips from the trenches A must read for all online marketers from the excellent MarketingSherpa.

BSkyB in Google link-up Some have predicted it for while [well I have] but now it seems to be happening. Driven by digital technology, the advantages of advertising on the web are moving to TV. Good to see that it is the UK that is leading the way.

B2B e-marketing Excellent article on how manufacturers should be using the web to sell their products.

Money-spinning on the web This is a good article, I enjoyed reading it. It makes some sensible observations on making money as an affiliate or by listing PPC ads on your website. Doesn't tell you how to get folk to go to your website to see the ads in the first place though. And that is the hard part. Dot com mega-millionaire wannabees take note.

The Strength of Internet Ties Did you know that the Internet helped 21 million Americans get additional career training; helped 17 million deal with a major illness or helped 16 million buy a car? No? All that and more in the excellent report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

Information Super Traffic Jam The issue of net neutrality seems to come and go, but here is a new perspective.

Advertising, Marketing: What's the Diff? Here's an interesting article that raises the issue of where marketing and advertising differ - and has the Internet blurred the issue still further.

Where to book your travel online This article is typical of those which appear in newspapers every week that look at how a particular subject/industry/hobby/sport is treated online. This article is included here so that e-marketers can see what they need to do to meet the needs of their [potential] customers [when you're inside the bottle ...].

The case for courtesy Anyone in marketing - or more specifically, sales - who knows what they are doing will read this and say [something like] "well duh". Why? Because it is common [sales] sense. Shame so many ignore it.

This article is a nice antidote the one above. I have long-since argued that in terms of online transactions [e-commerce?] it is B2B where the big money is - but it is not sexy enough for the mainstream media to report on. Data like this backs up what I say about online B2B dwarfing the more media-favoured B2C. This article [Online auctions save govt millions on IT] talks about saving more in one product area than a lot of smaller B2C sites combined will actually sell. Furthermore, the subject is hardly leading edge stuff, this kind of e-procurement has been going on since the turn of the century.

This is something from me. It considers two things: Does the Internet bring anything new to marketing and also questions the Internet's role in distribution. The latter is probably any issue that a marketing lecturer should know - ho hum. There is nothing new in marketing on the web.

If ever there was a 'traditional' concept that could take an advantage of Internet technology, it is that of having advocates for your product. This article - Engage Brand Advocates Through Behavioral Targeting - tells how the web can help things along.

Here's good article that considers an element of online marketing which changes strategic thinking - it even uses the word 'paradigm' [but don't let that put you off]. Decentralized Commerce.

New Market Power: A Democratic Exchange - an inteligent look at how consumer generated content [CGC] is changing marketing.

I - and other practitioners - discovered this ten years ago, but its nice to see some research to prove the point. The article's title says it all - Brands Beat Prices Online - it's a couple of year old now - but I think the concept has gathered strength since then.

I find the 'Street View' feature in Google Maps fantastic. My wife and I used it when selecting hotels for our 2008 trip to America - it's great to be able to check out the location of potential accommodation before you book online. If you've not come across it (at the time of writing, June 08, it covered only some parts of the USA) here's an article that picks up on some of the amusing, and questionable, aspects of it - Cool Sights In Google Street View.

An excellent article on the titular subject by someone who knows marketing ... and I mean really knows - Five Fundamentals of Integrated Marketing

Almost a way of life in the USA, but not such a popular marketing tool in Europe, the coupon can can be distributed effectively online - Coupon Tactics Get Interesting.
